Newfane Highlights
This lovely New England town, with whitewashed and black shuttered homes, architecture made possible by the prosperous industries of the 1850s, this small town square includes Williamsville and South Newfane. It has diverse terrains, steep hills with deep valleys, and “paints a beautiful picture of the majesty of the natural world.” Tight knit neighborhoods, ‘artsy and hip’ with an old time feel, Newfane is a place to behold. Campgrounds, hiking trails, horseback riding, pick your own berry farm with an exceptional farm stand (Dutton Berry Farm), a bookstore featuring British titles and vintage books….all in an old farmhouse (Olde and New England Books) are waiting to be explored. An 1880 train station has recently been restored to a railroad museum (West River RR Museum) is a stop you will want to take. Restaurants from ‘chic and edgy’ (Fat Crow), a tavern (Rick’s), a Farm to Table (Artisan Rest, Tavern and Garden) and 4 Columns Inn and Restaurant which invites you to dine in an historic location and is pure VT; 5 star food; and has tables inside or out in the garden. And, no one can forget FUNNY FARM, a 1988 Chevy Chase movie that is a long time favorite. Being able to use the scenic canvas of this beautiful Vermont town, it will always be remembered as one of the most popular movies ever filmed in VT.
