North Clarendon Highlights
In the 1800s, many people took advantage of the therapeutic healing springs in North Clarendon. Many rivers and creeks flow through this small rural town, making the healing water available for numerous people. Many buildings are on the National Historic Register. For example, the Clarendon Congregational Church, Clarendon House -- both fine examples of pre-Civil War resort architecture. Being an agricultural district, dairy farms are prevalent here. Another site that is a ‘must see’ (because of its popular local geographical feature of a 30 foot suspension bridge) is Clarendon Gorge. The bridge leads to a waterfall and watering holes and a connection to the Appalachian Scenic Trail. Kingsley Covered Bridge is also picturesque.Yes. Definitely bring your camera. It is the town’s only surviving 19th century bridge. Quiet and peaceful; “little hamlet” it’s sometimes called, being divided from the main village of Clarendon — a great little town to enjoy!!
