One of the villages in the town of Springfield, VT, North Springfield, has a population of under 1,000 with warm, friendly people. The Black River Produce Company, a major food processor and distributor, has its headquarters here. Much history can be found in the Grout Cemetery and various places around town. The Ten Mile Marker, (circa 1759) which marks the camp distance from the Fort #4 in Charlestown, NH, is one of the last Crown Point Trail camp markers in existence. Hiking and walking can be enjoyed on the 1.5 mile trail. With many acres of land, the Corps of Engineers takes pride in managing many hiking trails and recreation areas in this cute little town. Having 1,361 acres of land ranging from forests and fields to wetlands and two lakes, North Springfield Lake has opportunities for endless outdoor fun. Swimming, sunbathing, camping and picnicking at the lake; ranglers can try their luck at fishing in the lake, ponds or rivers; boats, canoes and kayaks are welcome at the lake as well. Stoughton Pond Recreation Area has a shelter to rent for day outings and can be reserved for weddings or parties. Snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are welcomed during the winter. Restaurants, inns, hotels and anything else you might possibly need can be found in close proximity to North Springfield. Come and explore the wildlife and the natural beauty of this area.
