Freedom Highlights
Freedom got its name when it separated from Effingham in 1813. It is located close to the Maine border. A quiet rural town, with well kept homes (some even have white picket fences) and a few are adorned with large barns, will give you a hint of the town’s residents and the history. This is only one special feature of Freedom. The Allard House and Works Museum will certainly hold your interest when you start to explore its collection of carpentry tools, handmade barrels, blacksmith items, farm and kitchen utensils. The Freedom Village Store, a non-profit, all volunteer store, which features locally sourced food items and where you can also grab a cup of coffee, newspaper or chat with locals, will warmly open its doors and invite you in. Their mottos are -- “Store to door delivery” and “For the Community - By the Community.” My Great White Barn, which is across from the Village Store is an art gallery and also holds classes and community events. And, we can’t forget Bobby Sue’s Homemade Ice Cream. This is a year round destination (with picnic tables and canopies during the warm weather) and I am sure, you will find some of the best homemade ice cream ever! See you there!
