Madison Highlights
Madison is known for its numerous hiking trails, beauty seen in every direction you look, outdoor enjoyment, but mostly for The Madison Boulder. Known as the largest glacial erratic boulder (not just in New Hampshire but ALL of North America), this National Natural Landmark, measuring 83 feet long, 23 feet high, 27 feet wide and weighing 5,000 tons is phenomenal! An easy walk from the parking lot, this is a sight that you won’t want to miss. A wonderful family adventure or a special walk for you and a friend. Crystal clear ponds and lakes can be enjoyed here and great outdoor adventures await. Trails...many, many trails for hiking, casual walks, sight seeing and enjoying breathtaking views. Silver Lake Railroad, run completely by volunteers at no charge (donation) offers a 55 minute ride to sit and relax while taking in the scenery as you roll by. Joy Farm, also known as E.E. Cummings House, is a historic farmstead in the Silver Lake area of Madison. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971, in recognition of its place as the longtime summer home of the poet, there is extensive history here. An octagonal tower connected to the main house is a beautiful sight to see. Madison has much to see and enjoy. Stop in!
