Salem Highlights
Salem, once a part of MA and considered part of the Commonwealth, belongs to the Granite State. Settled in 1652, the governor, Benning Wentworth, incorporated the town during the middle of the century. The community was named after Salem, MA. As early as the 1730s, the NH and MA state line was formed and Salem became the “North Parish.” Fast-forward to the early twentieth century. In 1902, Canobie Lake Park was established in a bid to promote trolley tours. Having America’s Stonehenge and other attractions, the park became a popular tourist spot which assisted in Salem’s growth. The Salem Town Forest, which stretches over 200 acres of beautiful land, offers many hiking trails and beautiful scenery.
