Sanbornton Highlights
Granted in 1748, this town was named after John Sanborn, a close friend of Governor Benning Wentworth. It was one of the first of four towns to be given a charter by Masonic Proprietors. The site of the Colonial Army’s Winter Quarters during the Canadian Expedition in 1746, this town is rich in history. Sanbornton Square Historic District contains one former academy building which is now a library, one church, one town hall and two former taverns. Small stores, a bandstand, a stone town pound, a former blacksmith shop, all are here for a look back at history. There is still plenty of farmland in this cozy, rural town. You can retreat from the hustle and bustle of faster paced city life while still being close to all of the amenity’s you may want. You can always find places to walk, hike or relax. A great public beach welcomes you too. “Friendly people where everyone is connected” is a familiar quote describing Sanbornton.
