Surry Highlights
Welcome to the town of Surry, known as a place where there are plenty of waters to fish and a very nice bend pool where Gilsum Road meets Route 12A. Surry offers anglers many places to fish with varieties from rainbow and brown trout, small and largemouth bass, pickerel, black crappie, bluegill, and also, yellow perch. There are places to kayak. Canoe fishing is also available. The Surry Mountain Dam and Lake area is a 350-acre impoundment which was created for flood control in 1941 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A boat launch and a swimming area are available, and there are also campsites for your convenience. Beth-El Bible Church (built in the 1800s), with its very unusual steeple, is a historical sight that you won’t want to miss. The beautiful meetinghouse next to the church is also a treasure. History, farmland, birch trees and lovely stone walls are everywhere you look when you are in this lovely little town.
