Warren Highlights

Warren is mostly known for its unusual landmark(s). The residents embrace the most noticeable one -- the Redstone Ballistic Missile which is close to the church and the historical museum. A missile? Yes. A missile. It was purchased by a Warren native, Henry T. Asselin, who donated it to the town of Warren in honor of Norris Cotton, a U.S. congressman and senator. Many residents consider it an eyesore. Others are not happy having it near the church. It was voted to be removed but a group of supporters painted it and convinced the others to keep it. It definitely brings people to Warren to see such an unusual sight. Two other unusual landmarks are the NH State Sanatorium (Glencliff) which was in existence from 1909-1970. Located on the slope of Mt. Moosilauke, it was a place to cure people with tuberculosis because of the pure mountain air. Another strange site...the Morse Museum that closed in 1992, which contained oddities like dead animal trophies and Egyptian mummies.The book, “The Morse Museum Story” is available if you have more interest regarding this creepy (intriguing?) place. Now to the normal things in Warren. Davis-White State Forest is here for hiking; two great campgrounds -- Moose Hillock Campground and Scenic View Campground provide swimming, fishing and boating. And, there are great restaurants. They include the Ore Mill Bar and Grille (with rave reviews and great food); Calamity Jane’s (home cooked meals and even a self-serve candy section!) and the Green House Restaurant (serving lunch and dinner and offers weekly music). All are waiting for your enjoyment.
