Learn more about Acworth
Acworth was incorporated in 1772. By 1859, using the Cold River as power for industry, sawmills, a gristmill, a woolen factory, plus a bobbin and peg factory became sources of income. Acworth was also a source for museum-quality crystals such as beryl. Having a community-run general store in the heart of South Acworth, the mission is to maintain a traditional, reliable grocery, cooperatively owned and governed by its members. Always having a great supply of locally raised products, cold and hot food made fresh daily, you won’t want to miss stopping in. Bascom Maple Farms is another business you will want to see. One of the largest independent maple wholesalers in the U.S., as well as the country’s largest distributor of new and used sugaring equipment, maple farmers rely on this great company that has been producing syrup since 1853. The Captain Woodbury Guesthouse B&B (built in 1818), with its beautiful scenery and charming setting, you will feel very welcomed. Watching the sunrise or sunset from its lovely enclosed porch, while you relax and enjoy coffee or tea (which is provided), a homemade breakfast with local farm fresh eggs and toast — you will definitely want to stay as long as possible. “A beautiful journey back in time” is how one visitor put it.
