Learn more about Amherst
Charming, historic, colonial architecture, village greens, monuments — this is just the beginning of what you will find when you arrive at the stunning village of Amherst, NH. Originally chartered in 1728, the Amherst Common invites visitors to explore the historic architecture and landmarks that spread out from its town green. You will find a cube of granite (with a hook poking out of its top) alleged to have been a whipping post. The Soldiers’ Monument, erected in 1871, represents twenty-five soldiers from Amherst who lost their lives during the Civil War. Moulton’s Market, a wonderful small grocery store and deli, carrying just about anything your heart desires, and two cherry red Jenney pumps (predating 1940 but restored in 1994) adorn Mike’s Auto Service and will tug at your nostalgic heartstrings. Amherst is a must see!!
