Learn more about Bennington
Historic Bennington is located on the Contoocook River and is known as a ‘culturally diverse community.’ It was named to commemorate the Battle of Bennington, an American Revolutionary War battle fought in NY and near Bennington, VT. This historic little town once provided water power for many mills. In 1782, the first grist mill was built with a cotton mill being built 30 years later. Soon to follow was a tannery and a tool manufacturing company. A lovely church, Papermill Village Covered Bridge and numerous other treasures can be found as you start to explore. During the warmer months, as you enter Bennington, you will hear plenty of live music playing along Main Street (weather permitting), see art exhibits, smiling people and come upon a wonderful visitor center which will warmly direct you through the town and its surrounding areas. Bennington has been called “a small capsule of history.”
