Berlin is the north most city in NH and is located on the Androscoggin River. It is known for its fast current and ten hydroelectric dams. Many nicknames have been given to Berlin, i.e., Paper City, The City That Trees Built (once was the center of the pulp/paper industry) and Hockey Town USA (1947-1976, the high school hockey team dominated the sport). For nearly a decade Berlin has hosted an Oktoberfest celebration which has attracted numerous visitors. Jericho Mt. State Park is one of the many places in Berlin where you will see such jaw-dropping sights. With its lovely beach, kayaking/canoeing, ATV trails, camping, and fishing, you will definitely enjoy a memorable experience at this state park. Jasper Caves, listed on the National Register of Historic Places is where rhyolite (used to make tools) was discovered by the Paleo Indians. The cave is now a prehistoric archeological site with an amazing history. The Berlin Fish Hatchery is another great place to visit. It offers free admission and has a pond where you can feed fish as well as many informational exhibits. Restaurants, (i.e., Chinese, Mexican), pizza, pubs, lounges and a deli are here to fill your tummy after a delightful day in Berlin.
