Derry, nicknamed Spacetown, honoring astronaut Alan Shepard (the first U.S. astronaut in space) was born here. Once considered a linen and leather center, as well as an excellent area for farming, Derry is a healthy environment with a great school system and ease of life. Robert Frost, the well-known poet, has a national historic landmark here. Taylor Mill State Historic Site (1799) continues to be a working sawmill. To continue concerts for the public, the Tupelo Music Hall Drive-In Experience has taken their fabulous venue outdoors.
