Learn more about Franconia

Part of the White Mountain National Forest, Franconia is known for its U-shaped valley called “The Notch.” Franconia Notch State Park had the first passenger aerial tramway (Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway) in North America and it is still running today. Cannon Mountain (formerly Profile Mountain), with its famous mountain peak, is a challenge for ice and rock climbing. With its 23 miles of trails and being the 7th largest ski area in New England, this is a skier’s paradise. The “Old Man of the Mountain”, a rock formation that collapsed in 2003 (profiled on NH license plates) is now memorialized at the base of this mountain. Flume Gorge, a natural gorge formed from glacier pools, can be enjoyed by a self-guided 2 mile excursion. Being able to see towering moss covered granite walls, cascading waterfalls, historic covered bridges, scenery beyond belief, this is a must see!!! Echo Lake offers mountain views, cold water fishing, a beach for swimming and relaxation. You can also enjoy Frost Place, former home to Robert Frost. Now an educational center and museum, this will give you a glimpse of the place where a poet could concentrate on his art. So much to see and enjoy here!
