Settled in 1640, this town was formed as a result of a boundary dispute between Massachusetts and New Hampshire. With a heavy growth of native trees, it was originally known as “Timberlane Parish.” The Hampstead Meetinghouse (1749-1768) was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. With its eye-pleasing downtown area and historic Main Street, aligned with beautiful antique colonial homes, this is a town you will definitely want to stop in and visit.
