Holderness

Nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains and the shores of Squam Lake is Holderness. Known for its agriculture and captivating resort area, you will find much to enjoy. Summer homes built between 1870 and 1921 are found in the Shepard Hill Historic District. Holderness School, a co-ed, college prep, elevated educational experience resides here. Two chapels can be found on this lovely campus — The Chapel of the Holy Cross, an example of Gothic Revival architecture and Chocorua Island Chapel, originally made by boulders, trees, various island vegetation and beach sand. There is a feeling of community here as their motto portrays — “For God and Humankind.” Squam Lake National Science Center, an environmental education center, with a mission to advance the understanding of ecology by exploring New Hampshire’s natural world through live animal exhibits, educational programs, lake cruises and outdoor classrooms is phenomenal.
