Learn more about Mason

Mason was the home to Samuel Wilson, a meat supplier who is believed to be the inspiration of America’s national symbol with the famous Uncle Sam character pointing “I WANT YOU”. Today, the private house of Wilson is identified by a state historical marker. Another native, Elizabeth Orton Jones, is the author and illustrator of the well-known story book Little Red Riding Hood. In 1759, Ebenezer Blood, also from Mason, was said to build a model for the grandmother’s house in this memorable book. You can find this adorable cottage (Pickity Place) in Mason, welcoming you with nostalgia and absolutely gorgeous gardens. Andy’s Playhouse, renowned youth theatre, is also known for its dedication by Jones.
