Learn more about New Boston

Back in the 1800s, there were 48 mills dispersed throughout this charming little town. Surrounded by hilly terrain and a powerful river, settlers came here for lumber and grain milling needs. A fire in 1887 destroyed 40 buildings in the town but have been replaced by brightly colored Victorian homes. Molly Stark’s cannon (‘Old Molly’ as it is called) makes its home here. John, her husband and his troops at the Battle of Bennington, captured this cannon. Many interesting artifacts can be found at the Historical Society Museum including mill tools, a tavern carriage and….a golden eagle shot while carrying off a hunter’s beagle! Nestled in the banks of two mountain peaks called the Uncanoonuc Mountains, New Boston has numerous small farms, equestrian facilities, hiking trails (maintained for biking and running as well) and show-stopping views. New Boston Air Force Station resides here. Once used to practice setting off bombs, it is now a tracking station for military satellites.
