Learn more about North Walpole

Known as the largest village in the town of Walpole, it even has its own zip code! St. Peter’s Church (circa 1848) is a magnificent sight as you drive through this quaint little town. Adorned inside with a marble altar, marble-side altars of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, this historical church is stunning inside and out. History tells us that Spring snowmelt brought log drives down the Connecticut River and log drivers were stationed in North Walpole to guide the logs through a sluice (artificial channel for conducting water to regulate its flow) and over the dam at Bellow Falls, Vermont. Eighteen saloons were available to quench log drivers’ thirst! Another piece of history is the Stone Arch Bridge, which leads from North Walpole across the Connecticut River into Vermont. Built without mortar and sustained solely by expert shaping of its archstones, it is typical of the construction in the Nineteenth Century.
