The White Mountain National Forest has hardwoods, alpine peaks, lakes and streams, wildlife and many outdoor recreations. Hemenway State Forest, with 2106 acres of pedestrian trails, large white pines, an inactive fire tower that can be climbed to see the mountain vistas, all await your visit. White Lake State Park, is a public park for camping, picnicking, hiking and recreation around a glacier formed lake which holds more adventures. Chinook Kennels makes its home here. It raises sled dogs for Admiral Richard Byrd Antarctic Expeditions (search and rescue units). Restaurants with home-cooked meals, wings and burgers, a cafe with a general store, all will welcome you warmly. Tamworth is definitely worth a few days to explore.
