Perkinsville Highlights
In the town of Weathersfield, this very tiny neighborhood stands. It is .2 square miles in total. Three sites were noted about Perkinsville, all of which are interesting. The first site is Upper Falls Covered Bridge (also known as Downers Covered Bridge). Built in 1840 and spanning over the Black River, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (Here’s some trivia for you. Does anyone know why covered bridges were covered or when they were built? Most covered bridges were built between 1825 and 1875. By the 1870s, most of these bridges were covered at the time of construction. The original reason for the cover was to protect the bridge’s trusses and decks from snow and rain, preventing decay and rot. I didn’t know that, did you?) The second site noted is the Inn at Weathersfield. It is rustic and absolutely lovely. Being a chic bed and breakfast, with a gourmet farm to table restaurant, a tavern, a wine cellar and winter cooking classes, your stay will definitely be enjoyed here. Cozy is the word that comes to mind. The third site noted is the Village Ice Cream Restaurant which is a roadside snack bar and ice cream stand. With outdoor dining, an extensive menu and it even has gluten free options. Perkinsville may be small (tiny actually) but the offerings are huge!
